When I first looked at some of the topic options none of them really stood out to me, but then I saw my topic, Miranda vs Arizona. I already had some background information about the case so I knew I would be able to expand on the topic and certainty pull out some key facts. After I investigated a little more I was able to find a few things that really stood out to me, made me want to research some more. For example Ernesto Miranda not being told his rights during the interrogation, it seemed so ridiculous to me at the time that they didn't tell him his rights, made me almost want to side with Miranda.
The first step after choosing my topic was research! I wanted to know what Ernesto Miranda actually looked like because when I was first learning about the case there weren't many pictures in the textbook. I made sure to save all the photos that I thought were appropriate, along with their urls then proceeded to look up actual information. The process of finding primary sources wasn't too hard, I actually was able to pull out many quotes that interested me and helped me gain knowledge about the case. One of my favorite quotes that I found would have to be the quote on the "Conclusion" page, it includes a more detailed version of the Miranda Rights.
I chose to make my project a website because I thought “I've never made a website before it should be a good experience.” The first step to creating a website was choosing a design and trust me it took a while. Once I finished I started to look for some secondary sources since the primary sources weren't able to go over everything that I had wanted to go over. Every time I used a source I made sure to record it in to my annotated bibliography and write how I used it. Once I was finished typing up everything and clicked publish I wiped a single tear off of my face because this had to be one of my most favorite projects in the history of projects since I had worked so hard on it.
My topic relates to the topic theme because it talks about the rights we have that should be told to us when arrested and the responsibility of the police officers to actually tell us those rights. The rights i'm talking about are called the “Miranda Rights” (yes named after Ernesto Miranda) which include the famous “right to remain silent” and "Anything you do say may be used against you in a court of law". Ernesto Miranda did not know he had those rights and was forced in to confession. After he was convicted of rape and kidnapping his attorney appealed to the the Supreme Court and they accepted the case along with 4 similar cases.
