The prosecutions case was based around his confession. When Cooley, the police officer that questioned Miranda, was asked if he had warned Miranda of his rights during the interrogation he replied, "Yes, sir. At the heading of the statement is a paragraph typed out, and I read this paragraph to him out loud". In the end the Jury had decided that Miranda was guilty of rape and kidnapping, the sentence he faced was 20 to 30 years in prison.
APPEAL
Miranda's attorney appealed to the Arizona Supreme court, saying that the police obtained his confession in an unconstitutional way. The court disagreed with this statement making Miranda's attorney go and appeal to the U.S Supreme Court in 1966 who agreed to hear the case along with 4 other similar cases.
